Is the world progressing too fast for you? Technology

The answer for me is: yes. Right, I'm only in my teenage years so I can't exactly say that I have watched the world around me change for a century or so. What I can say is that I have clearly remembered the difference from
5 years ago till
now. 5 years ago, I was just a mere kid, nothing much, just happy to go to school and meet my friends. I didn't have the need to use a smartphone, and so did everyone around me. I was considered one of the luckiest of my classmates, I had a Nokia slidescreen, while only a few of my classmates had phones. But I had seldom touched it. I recall: In the entire time I had that phone with me, which was approximately a year, I had only sent out 30 SMSes. You may argue, yea yea what does a kid need to talk about through the phone. Exactly! Because I had found no need to use the phone, I had probably just used my phone to play Snake II. My typing speed was also 10 letters/ min. Now 5 years on, it's the present, and with me I have an iPhone 5, without me needing to say, yes, an Apple phone. It's not customized, everyone around me has an Apple phone, around the world also. What do reporters use to record an interview of an up-and-coming movie star or director etc? Of course an iPhone 4 or 5, frequently S3 or 4 too!
Every day after school, I would take the subway, or MRT as we call it in my place, home. As I am standing and grasping on my files, I would look around me. Instead of realizing that someone is making eye contact with me. I realize everyone looks like
a king has walked by. With heads bent low. If only they had knelt down instead of sat down, it would make an ideal set for a historical Korean drama. Well, haha the king has not walked past. Instead, these people are bowing their heads to peer at their phones! Yup, you've got the gist of it. Fingers
typing furiously, lips
forming little smiles. Every where, all around, people are engrossed with their phones! Some of them even miss their stop as they were too focused on their iPhone, S4 or Blackberry. While crossing the road, some people are busy texting or listening to music from their phones, that they do not hear the
loud, angry honks from motorists. Some motorists are caught texting while the other hand is still on the wheel. Dangerous or dangerous?! As much as I sound like I'm dissing smartphones, I myself am a smartphone user, and I can't help but agree that having a smartphone is really convenient. Not only can you contact your friends to meet up/ discuss group work, or reviving old bonds between old friends, but also you could surf the net while waiting for your coffee to arrive, or just waiting for your parents to pick you up. The technology of the world has really picked up its pace. Amount of smartphone users have increased before you can even say "supercalifragilistic". What I plan to research further on is: has smartphones and the world wide web pose a huge impact (disadvantage) on human kind and the rest of the animal kingdom (hint:
bees)
P.S. There is a reason why I take geography too. I hope to find out more about our farmlands in the world, processed and GM food etc. Stay tuned for my next post :)
